Quick seach for Spanish Hotels and Information on Ourense or Orense Province of northern Spain

A2Z Spain Is please to offer the following search results for the Province of Ourense while we compile our complete database.

Ourense, or Orensein Castellan, is a province completely encircled by mountains and lies in the southern part of the autonomous community of Galicia.  These mountains have ensured the areas isolation from its neighbouring provinces and Portugal. The only pass between the two countries is the valley of Chaveswhich has led to very little influence, if any, from Portuguese culture. It has also meant a challenging and quite insular economic situation with a lot of migration.

In recent years, it has become more accessible with the construction of new roads and Ourense has created its own brand of rural tourism. The more mountainous areas are a well-known paradise for hiking, fishing and hunting, and in the north you will find great skiing.   Whereas in plains and pastures of the Miño Valley there are plenty of bodegas to visit and scattered throughout the province you will find many castles and towers. The preserved medieval towns of Allariz and Ribadavia are certainly worth a visit. There province also has several reservoirs where you can take part in a variety of water sports.

he main city, also called Ourense, offers some excellent hotels and restaurants, where you can enjoy the regions famous wine, Ribeiro, and sample some of the popular local dishes. Although the province has a deep rooted Celtic heritage in keeping with the rest of Galicía , there are some great examples of Roman architecture in the old part of the city. The 12th Century Cathedral is also in this area.  It took 4 years to construct and then underwent significant structural changes in the 19 th Century.  Other notable sites of interest here include the Burgos fountain, the archaeological museum and the Roman Bridge.

Some typical industries of the region include clothes manufacturing and milk production, water bottling near Verín along with pig-breeding and potato farming which is centralised mainly around the Xinzo da Limia region.
